Who Do We Work With?

At MASFAM, we believe that meaningful change comes from collaboration and collective effort. Specifically, we actively seek to connect with a diverse range of leaders and peers around the Atlanta area. By working together and having consistent meetings with these key stakeholders, we aim to build a strong network of advocates who share our commitment and support for the rescheduling and medical use of cannabis and psychedelics. Change within social and medical attitudes towards psychedelics and cannabis is within the hands of the upcoming generation of young adults, which is why we take meeting with a range of leaders within the Metro Atlanta community crucial for our mission.

Big Cannabis

“Big Cannabis” refers to large, influential companies within the cannabis industry that have a significant market presence, often spanning multiple states or countries. These companies, typically involved in the production, distribution, and sale of cannabis products, wield considerable influence over industry trends and legislative lobbying. Unlike psychedelics, medical marijuana has been permitted on a state-by-state basis, allowing for partial legalization; Georgia only allows for low THC-grade oil.

In Georgia, prominent players like Trulieve and Botanical Sciences are examples of Big Cannabis, and also the only permitted brands to sell cannabis products that contain THC. Trulieve, originally based in Florida, has expanded significantly and now operates several dispensaries across Georgia, offering a wide range of cannabis products. Botanical Sciences, on the other hand, is known for its involvement in the cultivation and production of medical cannabis within the state.

For MASFAM leaders, engaging with these companies is a vital goal. Meetings with Trulieve and Botanical Sciences can provide critical insights into the operational challenges and market dynamics of the cannabis industry in Georgia. These interactions allow MASFAM to more effectively advocate for policy changes and improve student-education on the business-side of medicine.

Why Atlanta?

MASFAM is strategically focused on the Atlanta area (Metro Atlanta), recognizing the city's historic significance and its role as one of the largest medical hubs in the South. Atlanta's rich history in civil rights movements provides a poignant backdrop for advocacy, particularly for challenging outdated drug policies special to the Southern social atmosphere. As home to leading healthcare institutions and research facilities, Atlanta offers a fertile environment for pushing forward the medical and scientific understanding of psychoactive substances. By situating our efforts in Atlanta, MASFAM leverages the city's unique position to influence both local and national perspectives on cannabis and psychedelics through the promotion of progressive health reforms.
